Richard K. Hemingway

Richard K. Hemingway became chairman and chief executive officer of Commercial Security Bank and Idaho Bank and Trust Co in 1966. With his ability to surround himself with loyal qualified and motivated employees, plus his business instincts, he was able to fulfill his vision by creating two statewide banks in Idaho and Utah. He led Commercial Security from an Ogden Bank with three branches and $60 million in assets to a statewide system of 30 locations in Utah with assets of $830 million. With Idaho Bank and Trust, he expanded from seven branches and $70 million in assets to 31 branches and $630 million. In 1987 CSB and IB&T Corporation merged with KeyCorp, reflecting the optimism, integrity and accomplishments of the two decades.

Richard's "by word" was public service. He used his position as a business leader to help create jobs and stimulate the economy. He and his wife Shirley were also philanthropists supporting among others the arts, higher education and health care. They have continued their philanthropy through the Richard K. and Shirley S. Hemingway Foundation. Richard died in 1996 and is survived by one son and three daughters. His wife Shirley and a son preceded him.
