Fred P. Lampropoulos


As a child, Fred P. Lampropoulos moved with his family to Salt Lake City, Utah, where they spent their first several nights sleeping in their car for lack of anywhere else to go.

Years later, as a young stockbroker, Lampropoulos was on the road to success and was determined to make his dreams a reality.

In 1987, Lampropoulos founded Merit Medical. Over the years, he invented or co-invented more than 100 patented devices used in the diagnostic and therapeutic treatment of cardiovascular disease.

In 1990, after in inital public offering, Merit Medical experienced enormous prosperity. Lampropoulos spearheaded product development and production, while providing a flourishing work environment for more than 600 employees in Utah and nearly 1,250 employees around the globe. Lampropoulos's commitment to his employees earned him The Utah Psychological Association's Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award, which was based upon his employee programs that promoted physical and emotional health.

Merit Medical broke ground in its 175,000 square-foot facility in South Jordan, Utah, in 1994. An additional 180,000 square-foot facility was later built upon the site. Renowned for high-quality products and customer service, the company grew to become on of the leading device manufacturers in the world and was selected twice as one of Forbes Magazine's "200 Best Small Companies."

Lampropoulos was named Salt Lake City's Entrepreneur of the YEar in 1993. The American Diabetes Association honored him as father of the Year for Utah, and The American Heart Association designated Lampropoulos as a Heart of Utah in 2003.

A strong advocate for education, Lampropoulos has supported numerous school programs and sponsored ongoing English as a Second Language (ESL) programs for his employees.

As one of the great business leaders and inventors in Utah, Lampropoulos made his dreams a reality, while contributing enormously to the economy of the state and the well-being of his valued employees and countless others.
